What does it do?

At NU Clinic, we offer Botulinum Toxin (wrinkle/ muscle relaxing injections), which is an incredibly effective treatment for softening and often completely erasing pesky fines lines that appear horizontally across the forehead.

    For most individuals, it is the most efficient and reliable treatment available for this area. It is important to note that this treatment works best when administered before the wrinkles become deep or firmly set in the skin.

who is it for?

At our clinic, we believe in the power of early intervention to achieve the best results in targeting forehead lines. By addressing these lines before they become static wrinkles (wrinkles that appear at rest without facial expressions), we often have the opportunity to completely erase them. Botulinum toxin, with its muscle-relaxing effect, works wonders in softening and preventing the development of these lines.

However, if the wrinkles have already set in as static wrinkles, the treatment can still be highly effective in relaxing the muscle and softening the appearance of the lines. Over time and with repeated treatments, significant reduction can be achieved. For individuals with static wrinkles, we recommend a combination approach and can make suitable recommendations during your consultation.

TREATMENT + recovery

Appointment duration is 30 minutes, with the actual treatment time lasting approximately 5 minutes with very minimal downtime. Results vary, most patients observe a return of full muscle movement between 3-6 months.

  • As with any medical treatment, there are potential side effects and risks associated with forehead wrinkle relaxing injections. Some common side effects include mild bruising, headaches, and cold-like symptoms. Occasionally, there may be slight asymmetry in the results, especially if there was pre-existing asymmetry. However, this can usually be easily corrected during your follow-up appointment.

    Forehead wrinkle relaxing injections are considered complex because the anatomy of the forehead can vary significantly among individuals. Your face has seven muscles that pull your eyebrows down and only one that lifts them. The muscle responsible for lifting your eyebrows also causes horizontal forehead lines. Finding the right balance is crucial to avoid eyebrow drooping. To minimize this risk, we start with lower doses for new patients and schedule a review follow-up appointment after 2 weeks to assess the results and make any necessary adjustments.

    While extremely rare, eyelid drooping (ptosis) is a potential risk with forehead anti-wrinkle injections. If this occurs, it is temporary and typically resolves within a few weeks. In such cases, we can provide eye drops to help correct the issue.

  • Most patients do not find muscle relaxing injections painful, but some mild discomfort is to be expected. Dr Oonagh often likens the sensation to get your eyebrows threaded.

  • If you have more pronounced wrinkles we might explore alternative options during a consultation, focusing on skin rejuvenation treatments to cater to your unique needs.

    It is essential to note that allergies to Botulinum toxin are extremely rare. For the safety of our clients, we cannot administer this treatment to individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.   • Wrinkle relaxing injections are not permanent, and both their effects and any side effects will wear off over time. It is normal to begin experiencing some movement in the treated area around 8 weeks after the injections. This is not an indication that the treatment has worn off prematurely; it is simply a natural return to muscle activity.

    Since wrinkle relaxing injections cannot be reversed or removed, we approach the treatment with a lighter touch during your initial sessions. This allows us to carefully monitor the results and make any necessary adjustments during your follow-up appointment. In case of any side effects, such as asymmetry or over-arching of the eyebrows, we can often improve the situation by injecting additional wrinkle relaxing injections to achieve the desired outcome.
